Seville (EFE).- An orderly at the Virgen Macarena hospital in Seville lost the first phalanx of a finger on one hand after it was torn off by a patient who demanded to be treated urgently at the health center, as reported by the UGT union on Wednesday.
The events, as denounced by the union organization in a statement, occurred on April 28 in the night shift of the emergency service, where a user demanded upon arrival: “I want a doctor to see me. I want a doctor to see me: if not, I’m going to grab a strap and hang myself”, so the administrative staff of the emergency admission service gave him access to the classification room.
In the aforementioned room he began to bang his head against the wall and later he took off his belt and tried to perform a maneuver to hang himself, for which reason the attendants at the Emergency and classification doors went towards him to try to prevent him from doing physical harm. .
The patient became very violent and, trying to avoid harm, bit one of the guards, ripping off the first phalanx of a finger from his hand and later spitting out the piece that had been severed from the worker.
UGT has denounced “the lack of security at the emergency door of this hospital and the lack of protection faced by the professionals of the Virgen Macarena hospital”, where “unfortunately, we can see events like this much more frequently than we would like ”.
For this reason, it has demanded more security measures “to avoid episodes that occur one day in and the other, both in hospitals and in Primary Care.”
