Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The shooting guard Nico Richotti, 36, announced this Tuesday his retirement from active basketball after nineteen years as a professional.
The Italian-Argentine spent nine seasons defending the CB Canarias shirt, a club that at the beginning of the next campaign will remove his shirt and put it on top of the Santiago Martín de La Laguna Sports pavilion.
“After 19 seasons as a professional basketball player, I have decided to retire and put an end to this wonderful stage of my life,” Nico Richotti announced on social networks to show his intention to leave active basketball.
His arrival in Europe occurred in the 2005/2006 season to play for Italian Campobasso, then he played for Agropoli and Rovigo, in the 2007/08 campaign.
The San Isidro de La Orotava Basketball Club, which played in the EBA League (Tenerife) was his first team in Spain. His president, Sixto García, then notified those responsible for CB Canarias that his team had signed a young player who would give a lot to talk about in the Spanish League.
The truth is that, despite his excellent averages -18 points, 5 rebounds, four assists, 32 minutes of play and 16.5 valuation credits-, the team from La Laguna missed the opportunity and it was Real Madrid who signed him for their affiliate team.
The following summer he returned to Tenerife and did the preseason with the aurinegro club, which signed him after Jaime Heras’ injury.
The player established himself in the team and stayed there for nine seasons, achieving great success with the club.
In the 2019/2020 season he stopped being a CB Canarias player to sign for Fuenlabrada.
Palencia (LEB Oro) and Njarovic from Iceland were the last professional teams where he played. Now it will become part of the structure of the Tenerife club. EFE
