Madrid (EFE).- The Canary Islands have received 3,495 immigrants who arrived on their shores in 80 boats from January 1 to May 15, half that of the same period in 2022, when 7,619 people (-54%) arrived, according to data published this Wednesday by the Ministry of the Interior.
Between January 1 and May 15, the irregular arrival in Spain of 7,282 immigrants has been registered, 36.5% less than in the previous year.
By sea, 6,939 foreigners have arrived, 31.7% less, thanks to the significant reduction in flows to the Canary Islands, because, on the other hand, boat entries to the peninsula and the Balearic Islands have grown by 38% compared to last year ( from 2,453 to 3,388).
The number of immigrants arriving irregularly in Ceuta and Melilla by land has dropped by almost 74%, especially due to the slowdown in Melilla.
In that autonomous city, the entry of 35 foreigners has been registered until May 15, compared to 948 last year (96.3% less). In Ceuta the drop is 13%, going from 354 people to 308. EFE
