In a statement, CESM assures that it does not understand why the Government of the Canary Islands “hide behind that table when agreements can be achieved in another way” and advances that it will maintain the call for a strike until it obtains from the regional administration “real commitments to improve the working conditions of doctors.
Regarding Torres’ appeal to the unions represented in the Health Roundtable “to comply with what they sign”, CESM points out that it is “a minimum signing” with the rest of the unions present at the Sector Roundtable on May 5 , which met, he stresses, after the call for the indefinite strike.
If this trade union central came it was “to be able to resolve this conflict” and postponed the start of the strike “as a gesture of goodwill towards the negotiation,” he adds.
The CESM maintains that this meeting was met “with the proclamation of generic measures that do not speak at any time of the working conditions of doctors in the Canary Islands, without any established deadline”, and that they signed “solely out of a sense of responsibility and because they also they concern the rest of the health groups”.
And at the next meeting, held four days later, there was no progress or concretion in their demands, nor “defined commitments”, so they resumed the call for a strike starting this Friday.
CESM emphasizes that throughout this conflict, Ángel Víctor Torres “says he maintains a negotiating attitude, but the facts show the complete opposite.”
He judges Torres’ “inability” to “commit” to responding to “the fairest demands of the Canary Islands doctors and to negotiate with us” as “irresponsible”, and he wonders if he suffers from “white coat syndrome” or not They have “told him the reality of what happened.”
The Doctors Union criticizes the “intransigent” attitude of the direction of the Canary Islands Health Service, Elizabeth Hernández; while the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, says that she “neither is nor is she expected.”
CESM indicates that it will attend this Wednesday’s meeting of the sectoral table out of a “sense of duty and responsibility” to start the constitution of the working groups, knowing that “the possibilities of resolving the situation today are slim”. . EFE
