Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Canarian Executive demands that the central government transfer to the archipelago 754 million euros consigned in the general State budget for this year, regardless of when the new cabinet is constituted, because “the islands cannot wait,” said its spokesman, Afonso Cabello.
“We do not know when there will be a government, weeks of great uncertainty await us and the Government of the Canary Islands cannot lose a minute,” Cabello said after the Governing Council held this Monday.
Those 754 million euros pending transfer include aid to the island of La Palma, maritime transport, funds for the road agreement, for the fight against poverty and other matters.
“They are items established in the General State Budget that must be transferred, we cannot continue waiting several months,” said Cabello.
Likewise, he has insisted that “the State organization chart is in operation, a period of great uncertainty is opening up and today we are going to reiterate our request.”
Cabello has referred to the “noise that has been in recent weeks and the noise that will be in the coming weeks, we need the summer not to be lost in this dance that has opened on the state scene.”
Likewise, it has reported that the Government of the Canary Islands has maintained contacts with the Ministry of Transport for a modification in aid for the transport of goods, and with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to the increase in the arrival of canoes from Senegal to the islands.
The Canarian Executive has expressed its concern about the reception network for these immigrants if, as some experts predict, arrivals to the islands increase.
Cabello has also referred to the Budgets of the Autonomous Community for 2024 and the spending rule that, according to some information, would be applied next year, “it has not yet been reported, we are waiting for events, the Government of the Canary Islands will prepare the budget in a timely manner” when it finds out.
The Council of the Canary Islands has also addressed a modification of the Special Supply Regime (REA), which has the consensus of all sectors to help production, and provides 51 million euros until the end of the year to mitigate the extra cost of food and goods for production. EFE
