Logroño, (EFE).- The president of the La Rioja Government, Concha Andreu, has asked this Thursday the regional wine sector to send her the volume of Rioja wine that it has stored in excess within a period of fifteen days in order to raise a helps distillation.
Andreu has met with the organizations of the wine sector in La Rioja, who have expressed their concern about the excess of wine stored in the cellars and the proximity of the next harvest, “increasingly advanced” due to weather conditions.
In an informative conference, the president has indicated that the sector will receive help to solve the problems of excessive Rioja wine storage and has said that the availability of its Executive with the sector “is total”.
It has advanced that, as of next day 2, a “simple and agile” form will be sent to bulk processors so that, in 15 days, they send to the Government the surpluses that they have susceptible to distillation because “there will be aid”, but there is You have to know what volume of wine it is in order to know “how much money you have to invest”.
THERE WILL NOT BE A TWO-SPEED DENOMINATION
On the other hand, he has assured that his Government will not contribute to “a two-speed Denomination of Origin, but to support the sector to overcome this situation -of surplus Rioja wine stored-, because “no one likes distillation ” for Rioja wine.
He has acknowledged that the Basque Government has made public the liters of wine eligible for distillation to the producers of the Álava part of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa) -formed by the Rioja, Basque and Navarra communities-, but has said that They are not official figures.
He has also stressed that he would like “to have the economic funds that the Basque Government has” and has stressed that “you have to have data to calculate how much you have to put this year and next for distillation.”
