The president of the La Rioja Government, Concha Andreu, who has said that the drought situation in the region arouses “enormous concern” due to the low level of the Pajares and González Lacasa reservoirs, which are at 36.2% and 58.9 % of their capacity, respectively.
He has advocated, in an informative conference, for a necessary control of the water in the swamps, in this case, with the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE), Iberdrola and with whoever “is necessary”.
Andreu has stressed that if he revalidates the Presidency of the Government in the next legislature, “he will monitor the management of the water in the swamps” for a correct management of the water and store as much as possible, as long as it rains.
He has agreed with the agricultural and livestock sector about the “enormous concern” about the lack of rainfall, derived from the drought, and has assured that “it will be necessary to be close to the sector to analyze the structural losses.”
“We will be very aware” of the losses in fruit to “give a hand to the sector”, added the president, who has expressed herself in the same vein regarding the loss in the cereal harvest because, in addition, it will also affect livestock .
“The next legislature I will work with the irrigation communities so that not a single cubic meter of water is lost,” he stressed, and recalled the 163 million euros invested over the last four years in the modernization of irrigation systems.
