Málaga, (EFE).- In the 40s, many were the ones who played on the ground with chickpeas, but entertainment has become sport and this weekend the III National Open is being held in the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria in Málaga Football Chapas Malaga.
A competition that will be held this Saturday and Sunday and that adopts an international character with the confrontation of about twenty Spanish clubs and two from the north of Portugal.
“It’s just another sport, it already has very extensive regulations and it’s booming,” the president of the Chapas Málaga Football Club, Miguel Ángel Burgos, told EFE, insisting on its age and evolution since it was practiced in the soil with chickpeas in the 40s.
“All of us have played this when we were young”, it is a game that “is similar to billiards and big football”, but it is practiced with ten caps as players and a goalkeeper who is usually a “Coca-Cola stopper”, in a field with dimensions similar to that of table tennis.
soccer strategy and skill pins
Burgos ensures that it is a game that requires strategy and skill and has been satisfied that there are now more and more foreign clubs.
Up to seventy players from different cities in Spain will participate individually and in pairs of all ages, in a tournament that is open to the public for free.
“The smartest is usually the one who wins,” stressed Burgos, who points out “strategy” as a key factor to “be a top player.”
Currently in Spain there are already twenty-eight clubs dedicated to Chapas football that host tournaments rotating through different cities throughout the year like any other type of competition. EFE
