Zaragoza, Apr 2 (EFE).- Casademont Zaragoza made their dream come true by proclaiming themselves champion of the Copa de la Reina at home by beating Perfumerías Avenida in the final, 55-51, in a great match between the two teams and in which the locals were pushed by 10,800 spectators, a new record for this competition.
Since the Aragonese capital was designated as the venue for the 2023 edition of the Copa de la Reina, the Maño team was excited about the possibility of making history, achieving the first title of its short life, three years, despite the fact that it did not start among the favorites to lift the trophy.
However, the good season led by the team, both in European competition and in the League, raised hopes that it was feasible to proclaim themselves champion, something that came true after three great games.
In the quarterfinals they beat Kutxabank Araski with great clarity, in the semifinals they eliminated the leader of the Women’s League, Valencia, giving an image of a powerful team, and in the final they just exploded and signed another great match against another favorite and great dominator of the last decade of the KO tournament
The duel began with a lot of nerves on both sides, which caused poor success in the shots and turnovers. None seemed able to calm down and that led to maximum equality in the electronic at the end of the first ten minutes (12-14).
In the second set, and given the lack of success by both teams, they looked for the proximity of the basket to score. On the local side, Markheisa Gatling had a good supply of balls and took advantage of it, scoring 10 points out of the 12 that his team scored in this quarter in 8 minutes, and charging Julia Reisingerova with three fouls.
In Pepe Vázquez’s team it was Michaela Onyenwere, with five points, half of her team’s, who helped keep the pulse of a scoreboard that barely dropped two points in favor of Castilian-Leonese and Aragonese to reach refreshment time with a faithful reflection of what had been seen on the track (24-24).
The break began to shake the game. Perfumerías Avenida took advantage of the mistakes in local defense to reach a 7-point lead (24-31) in just two minutes, but the ‘rojillo’ team knew how to react well and, with triples by Leo Fiebich, Helena Oma and Gracia Alonso, equalized to 34 at minute 25, although a new jerk allowed the team from Salamanca to reach the last quarter with a slight advantage (37-42).
In the last ten minutes, the figure of Helena Oma emerged at Casademont. With 12 points, he turned the score around, achieving a lead of 8 (52-44) in minute 37, which he knew how to handle against the push of Perfumerías Avenida, which came within two points with 19 seconds to go but could not finish the match. reaction.
