Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands and Minister of Finance, Román Rodríguez, who has won a lawsuit against Caixabank for a multi-currency mortgage alleging “financial ignorance”, has assured that all he did was defend himself against to a hoax, against a bank that applied “abusive clauses” and sold “sophisticated products that no one understands, and that is why they lose lawsuits.”
“I don’t understand it now, and this was 17 years ago,” Rodríguez said in statements to COPE in relation to this credit for which he has obtained a favorable ruling for the moment, but that Caixabank has appealed to the Supreme Court because he does not believe that someone with the curriculum in the administration of Román Rodríguez does not know finances.
The multi-currency mortgage consists of assuming a loan in foreign currency, so that the cost in euros fluctuates depending on the price of the currency to which the loan is referenced.
The Minister of Finance, who has linked the dissemination of this information to the pre-election period, has insisted that “thousands of citizens of Spain” join him, among whom he cited magistrates, bank employees, lawyers, journalists, officials public, pilots, doctors or workers, in addition to companies, were “deceived” with “sophisticated financial products” that “the courts have been knocking down.”
“What we have done is defend ourselves,” he added, “we have been resorting to the courts and leaving the banks in evidence.”
Regarding the argument of “financial ignorance” about the product that he alleged in court, Román Rodríguez stressed that “it has nothing to do with the fact that the Minister of Defense has not gone to the military and that she does not know how to drive a helicopter, she only needed ».
“Now it will turn out that some side with the banks, that bank that has abused people for decades”, but “fortunately the courts are agreeing with the citizens and companies in confusing sophisticated products that they did not understand nobody, and that’s why they lose the lawsuits, “he said.
The vice president stated that “the problem is that the elections are approaching here and there are some media outlets that dedicate 20 minutes to this and nothing to the lawsuits that Mr. Clavijo has in criminal proceedings in the exercise of public affairs,” but added that “he is used to it” because he already has “a few triennia”.
