Zaragoza, Jul 18 (EFE) defend the PP and Vox in an act held this afternoon at the Teatro de las Esquinas in Zaragoza with agents and workers from the cultural sector.
Iceta explained that a book by Thomas Mann had been bought in the Aragonese capital today because “the same is prohibited next time” in allusion to the risk of involution to which the policies of the popular in conjunction with Vox can lead.
In this sense, he has assured that he will “always” be against censorship, the cancellation of plays, political correctness and dirigisme, because the forces of the right “have no measure.”
“Culture is uncomfortable because it is critical. We need artists to criticize us so that they can tell us what is not going well”, defended Iceta who, taking stock of his two years at the helm of the Ministry, is “happy but not satisfied because much progress has been made but it never ends”.
“If Vox did not have the varnish that the PP gives it, it could not do any harm. The problem is not Vox, it is the PP that is not capable of putting approaches that it does not share on the path ”, he affirmed.
“We are aware that the work has not finished and it is worth continuing,” he stated.
Alegría and Iceta have reiterated the commitment of the PSOE to invest 1.5% of the PGE in cultural policies, in which the minister of the branch has defended that “a lot has been done, it has been done well but there is still a lot to do.”
Pilar Alegría has also defended freedom of expression and creation as fundamental elements in a democracy in a sector that has recalled that it is made up of 700,000 people and accounts for approximately 3.5% of GDP, because “talking about culture -she has said- allows the intellectual emancipation of the people” at a time when far-right policies mean “taking big steps back 20, 30 and 50 years”.
They also set the goal of making a State pact for Culture possible, as well as broadening the Artist Statute to improve the conditions of culture workers.
Iceta has stressed that mechanisms must be added to this Statute that allow cultural self-employed workers an affordable level of contributions, with decent benefits, taking into account an activity characterized by intermittency and irregular income.
In addition, he has highlighted two crucial measures related to education, such as the new FP qualifications and the Artistic Education Bill. Both have also highlighted the need to continue expanding aid to development programs for cultural projects in rural areas or the plan to promote reading.
He has also defended his commitment to the decentralization of Culture and National Museums and that they “exercise their function as such by giving up their works” and as an example of decentralization, he recalled that in the Middle Ages, if the historic Caspe Commitment was signed, it was because before there was the agreement of the Alcañiz Concord, while on the extreme right “they want to go so far back that they want to go to Atapuerca”.
