Zaragoza, Jul 7 (EFE).- Princess Leonor has starred this Friday in her first visit to the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, where she will begin her military training in mid-August, by attending with the kings and queens the delivery ceremony of dispatches to the new lieutenants of the Army and the Civil Guard.
The heiress to the throne, who turns 18 on October 31, has attracted attention at its premiere in an act at one of the military academies, where she will enter as a cadet lady on August 17 and will swear the flag on October 7.
Together with Don Felipe and Doña Letizia and the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, the princess has made an appearance on the parade ground before the gaze of the around 2,000 people who have attended the event.
After greeting the civil and military authorities, Leonor de Borbón has taken a seat in the presidential box to the right of her father to follow the ceremony.
Dressed in a sleeveless white outfit with black polka dots in which she wore the Golden Fleece insignia, she remained in the gallery during the event as she did not participate in the delivery of diplomas to the 382 components of the 78 class, including , 58 women.
Neither have the kings, who have given it posthumously to the parents of cadet Juan Pablo Jerez, who died two years ago during maneuvers at the Zaragoza academy, in one of the most emotional moments that the Princess of Asturias has joined in with her applause.
The heiress to the throne has also shown her respect in memory of the fallen with the interpretation of “Death is not the end.”
Felipe VI, in the uniform of a captain general of the Army, has made several notes to his daughter during the ceremony to familiarize her with her military training.
The princess was flanked in the box by the general director, Manuel Pérez López, who in his speech referred to her presence: “Soon we will see her line up on this parade ground.”
He has had the opportunity to listen to the anthem of the academy and the first of the articles of the decalogue of the cadet, which summons to “have a great love for the country and fidelity to the king, externalized in all the acts of his life”.
It is not usual for the queen to attend this type of military act, but on this occasion she wanted to accompany her eldest daughter because of its special symbolism.
A month and a half after joining the Army, he has toured some of the facilities where he will carry out his day-to-day life at the academy during a course and has chatted with some of his teachers.
The ceremony closed with the parade of the new lieutenants outside the patio and with the “break ranks” of Felipe VI that preceded the launch of their flat caps and tricorn hats as a sign of jubilation before the curious gaze of the princess .
Leonor de Borbón assured last Wednesday that she was “happy” at the beginning of her military training, which will continue for the next two years in the Navy and Air Force academies.
“This is an important moment in my life and I feel very excited about it”, he highlighted in his speech at the Princess of Girona awards ceremony.
The heir to the throne follows in the footsteps of Felipe VI, who also began his military education at the age of 17, in 1985, as a cadet in Zaragoza, where four years later he received the office of infantry lieutenant after passing through the other two academies.
Among the authorities witnessing the premiere of the princess in Zaragoza, have been the acting president of Aragon, Javier Lambán, and the chief of staff of the Army, Amador Enseñat.
