Barcelona (EFE) than in the municipalities.
The head of the Department, Tània Verge, made this announcement this Wednesday during her visit to the municipal swimming pools of Manresa (Barcelona), where she went to present a graphic campaign in support of the Law on non-discrimination in these summer spaces.
With the motto “La meva piscina no discriminate” (My pool does not discriminate), the minister wanted to remind the new municipal governments that emerged from the elections on May 28 that swimming pools are spaces for socialization in which “everyone fits world, without exception.
“Given the rise of the extreme right throughout the State, with the rights of women and the LGTBI community as a bargaining chip, we are making a country message: we will not go backwards in rights and freedoms,” he stated.
The posters of the Feminisms and Equality campaign that support the Law have been designed by the artist Javirroyo and will be sent to all Catalan municipal swimming pools to remind them that these spaces are “climate refuge and leisure space and they must be for all , without anyone feeling discriminated against”, said Verge.
The minister explained that “wearing a bathing suit that covers the genitals and wanting to cool off are the only two conditions to be able to access a municipal swimming pool in Catalonia.”
He recalled that “what seems so obvious and simple has not been so for a long time, especially for women, who have seen how they were required to cover their breasts or were prohibited from breastfeeding their children, as well as for other groups those who were denied entry.
No city council can apply municipal regulations that do not conform to Law 19/2020 on equal treatment and non-discrimination.
In addition, he has announced that his department has gone a step further and has begun to work with the Associations of Property Administrators of Catalonia to guarantee that the swimming pools of the neighboring communities also comply with this regulation.
