Valladolid, (EFE).- The spokesman for the Junta de Castilla y León, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, explained this Thursday that the products of the Grupo Palacios affected by an outbreak of botulism have already been “withdrawn” from the commercial “shelves” in the Community, specifically the potato tortilla packaged fresh on the plate.
In a press conference after the Government Councilor, Carriedo stressed that they have been withdrawn in collaboration with the company, once the lots have been identified and where they were for sale; and this without prejudice to a subsequent study and analysis of them.
The spokesman for the Board has indicated that the collaboration with the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) “has been relevant”.
Relevant collaboration with Aesan
The Palacios Alimentación Business Group has alerted consumers this morning to refrain from eating and returning to the store the packaged potato tortillas they manufacture and which has been related to an outbreak of botulism that has so far left seven cases in various autonomous communities, including two Italian citizens who consumed this product in Valladolid.
These two Italian citizens began to have symptoms once they were in their country and at this time there is no person hospitalized for botulism in Castilla y León, sources from the Ministry of Health told EFE on Thursday.
That the Communities verify the withdrawal of the affected products
For its part, the Aesan has asked the autonomous communities precisely this Thursday to verify the withdrawal of the products affected by an outbreak of botulism from the marketing channels, after the Palacios Group has decided to withdraw them from the points of sale
The Aesan has updated the information on the outbreak, recalling the statement issued last night by the Palacios Group in which it reports on the voluntary withdrawal, as a precaution, from the shelves of the points of sale of the fresh packaged potato tortilla on the plate produced in the Mudrian (Segovia) factory, and the temporary stoppage of its manufacture.
Return of the product at the point of sale
Although up to now it has not been possible to establish evidence, neither in the products nor in the processes, that relates cause and effect, the Palacios Group has asked all people who have purchased any of these products (Palacios, Chef Select, Auchan, Eroski, Unide, Consum, DIA, Ametller, Condis, El Corte Inglés, Carrefour, Alipende, Grupo IFA and Rikissimo) to refrain from consuming it and to proceed to its return at the point for sale.
The outbreak of botulism associated with packaged potato tortillas has so far left seven cases, of which four -two Italian citizens who consumed this product in Valladolid, one in Asturias and a fourth in Galicia- have been confirmed, and three -in Madrid, Andalusia and the Valencian Community- have a compatible clinical situation.EFE
