The premiere was set for June 28, one day before its opening to the public, but the call for elections led the Government to postpone it so as not to interfere in the electoral campaign.
The museum, whose project began almost 25 years ago, is located next to the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral in the capital.
It has an area of 40,000 square meters, in which five centuries of art history in Spain are exhibited through what its kings collected.
The gallery exhibits 650 works, by authors such as Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Caravaggio or Bernini, of which a third will be rotated and periodically renewed with other pieces from the collection managed by National Heritage.
Felipe VI and Sánchez are going to intervene in the first part of the act (7:00 p.m.), scheduled in the Plaza de la Armería of the palace, and then they are going to visit the museum.
It is the first appearance of the acting head of government since Sunday’s elections, which have opened the door for him to run for re-election if he obtains the support of the Catalan separatists.
In addition to the kings and Sánchez, the opening ceremony will be attended by other authorities, such as the acting ministers of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, and of Culture, Miquel Iceta, and the president of Congress, Meritxell Batet.
