Málaga, (EFE).- The image of the well-known humorist from Málaga Chiquito de la Calzada, who died in 2017, has inspired the campaign launched by the Málaga City Council to prevent wipes from being flushed down the toilet, given the environmental and economic problem caused by the accumulation of this waste in the pipes.
Phrases like “Quietorrr, don’t throw the wipes in the WC”, “Don’t throw the wipes in the WC, for your teeth”. “Where are you going with that wipe?, sinner of the prairie”, or “Throwing the wipes down the WC is a dirty Spanish thing. Do you realize?”, have been chosen to draw the attention of public opinion to this problem.
The initiative, which the City Council has launched through the municipal water company (Emasa), has as its common thread an illustration by the Malaga artist Chuiquito de la Calzada about to throw some wipes into a wastebasket. Accompanied by some of his phrases to prevent them from flushing down the toilet.
Avoid toweling in the net and in the sea
In 2022, a total of 2,368 tons of solids were removed from the city’s sanitation and treatment infrastructure. This means that “there is still a lot of work to be done”, the Councilor for Environmental Sustainability, Penélope Gómez, stated this Monday during the presentation of the initiative.
The campaign, which has a budget of 28,664 euros, will be disseminated in a first phase of three months through local media. As well as on the corporate website and on municipal social networks, billboards and outdoor advertising screens in the city. And in one of the articulated buses of the EMT.
The objective is to prevent the wipes from reaching the sanitation networks and the sea. Since they end up accumulating in the pipes since not all these products are biodegradable. EFE
