Toledo (EFE).- The PSOE of Castilla-La Mancha will propose that the mayor of La Roda (Albacete), diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Disease (ALS) since November 2015, Juan Ramón Amores, be a senator by regional appointment.
In this way, he will become the first representative in the Upper House with this pathology.
Regional government sources have informed EFE of the proposal that the president of Castilla-La Mancha himself and secretary general of the regional PSOE, Emiliano García-Page, has made to Amores this Monday.
Amores, who will continue as mayor of La Roda after reaching the mayoralty with an absolute majority in 2019 and revalidating it in the municipal elections on May 28, will thus be the first senator with ELA, since the proposal will foreseeably go ahead thanks to the absolute majority of the PSOE in the regional courts.
In addition, the PSOE will also propose that the former mayoress of Ciudad Real Pilar Zamora also be a senator by regional designation.
Amores accepts the proposal, excited and responsibly
Amores has accepted García-Page’s proposal “nervous, excited, excited” and also “with great responsibility and grateful for his trust”, as he has written on his profile on the social network Twitter, consulted by EFE.
“I will try to defend the interests of Castilla-La Mancha in the territorial chamber. Disability does not limit options and that is progress”, Amores stated.
Page, proud that Amores will be the first senator with ELA
García-Page, for his part, has been “happy and proud” that Amores has accepted to be “the first senator with ELA in the history of Spain.”
“A man to admire in all aspects. A fighter, an ALS survivor, tireless in politics and in life, at work and personally”, García-Page praised Amores also through Twitter.
The PSOE of Albacete sees the proposal as “a great success”
In addition, the president of the Albacete Provincial Council and general secretary of the Albacete socialists, Santiago Cabañero, has considered “a great success” that the mayor of La Roda and also a provincial deputy is going to be a senator by regional appointment.
“I am convinced that he will be a senator accompanying the Government of Pedro Sánchez”, Cabañero stressed, who stressed that “in a Legislature in which the ELA Law, so necessary, will see the light, he will be the only parliamentarian who will know what he is talking about because he suffers it in his own flesh”.
