Madrid (EFE).- The hotel industry remains the section with the lowest average salary within the services sector, with 1,186 euros per month despite being where there has been a greater increase in average salary, of 28.4%, according to a study released this Thursday by Adecco.
In 2020, hospitality suffered a “big drop” in average wages, down 33.5%, which could not be offset by the 2022 increase of 26.3%, according to the XI Adecco wage monitor.
With this consecutive increase in 2022, the hotel industry manages to exceed the average salary of 2019, which stands at 1,099 euros and reaches 1,186 euros per month, however, it remains “far” from the average salary in the country, which is 1,822 euros per month.
Difference of more than 600 euros with the average salary
These figures lead to the total difference between the average salary in the country and the average salary in the hospitality industry amounting to 636 euros.
Meanwhile, the average salary in Spain marks, according to the Adecco study, “a new historical maximum since there are records” and that has grown by 4% in the last year, the second largest increase registered since 2008.
If the variation in consumer prices is discounted, in 2022, the average wage loses 4% of purchasing power despite the rise in wages, since the increase in consumer prices was higher.
In finance they charge almost 2,150 euros more
The sector that achieves the highest remuneration is finance, which, although its average salary has decreased compared to the previous year by 0.04%, with 3,334 euros per month, continues to be the “section with the highest average remuneration within the services sector”.
And within this category, the difference with the lowest salary, which the hotel industry holds, amounts to 2,148 euros.
The maximum gap between the average salaries of all economic sections is almost 2,821 euros per month (33,849 euros per year), which is the difference between the average salary of electricity and gas (4,007 euros per month) and that of the hotel industry.
The data shows that the salary of the first economic section exceeds that of the second (finance and insurance) by 3.4 times, thus reducing the gap with respect to the previous year, in which the distance between the two was 3,201 euros per month (4.5 times more).
