London, Jul 15 (EFE).- The Czech Marketa Vondrousova won her first Grand Slam by beating the Tunisian Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4, in the final of the Wimbledon women’s tournament.
The Czech, in a spotless match in which she barely made thirteen errors, made up for the first final she lost in a Grand, at Roland Garos 2019, and at the age of 24 she became Wimbledon champion, the title, by far, more important part of his sports career.
Jabeur will have to keep waiting to be the first African Grand Slam winner. This is already the third final of hers that she has lost, after Wimbledon 2022 and US Open 2022, and she once again showed that her important moments surpass her.
Vondrousova made a final volley that gave her the title and she fell to the ground in pure joy, before going up to her box, where her family was in tears.
Jabeur also cried, while collecting the runner-up plate. “It’s the worst defeat of my life,” said the Tunisian, completely broken and heartbreaking. “It is going to be a very hard day for me, but I will come back stronger. One day we will make it, I promise.”
Vondrousova received the Plate of Venus from the Princess of Wales and writes her name on the wall of the champions and in front of Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King.
“Tennis is crazy, to win this after what I’ve been through…” Vondrousova, who missed the tournament last year due to a hand injury, said in the winning speech.
