More than 500 Catalan swimming pools have joined this annual initiative which, under the name “Mulla’t”, has been making the disease visible for 30 years, including the role of caring families and facilitating neuro-rehabilitation as an effective treatment.
Organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (FEMM), the central event took place at the Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta (CNAB) with the attendance of various personalities, such as the president of the Parliament of Catalonia, Anna Erra, the cook Ada Parellada or the actor Octavi Pujades
According to their figures, more than 5 million euros have been raised in the three decades that this event has been held in that region, which has included “castellers” raised inside the pools as a symbol of the daily effort of the 9,000 people who are estimated to 55,000 in all of Spain live there with the disease.
With an estimate of 8,000 possibly affected, there has also been large participation in the Community of Madrid as part of the “Mójate por la EM” campaign, with 16 swimming pools from 8 municipalities that have donated their facilities to create a space for this solidarity bath. .
To this have been added other regions such as La Rioja, where it was hoped to recruit more than a thousand participants, twice as many as in 2022, or Galicia, where hundreds of people have come to the beach of Samil de Vigo (Pontevedra) to celebrate “Móllate”, which its leaders have considered “a success” of the call.
Likewise, in the Basque Country hundreds of people have signed up for the “Mójate-Busti Zaitez”, among them the former Athletic player Andoni Goikoetxea, the actor Asier Hormaza and the chef Fernando Canales.
The experts have insisted in these various acts on the importance of investing in research on multiple sclerosis because, “despite the fact that today there are many lines of study and various possible treatments to combat it, these slow down the evolution of the disease, but They don’t cure it.”
