Palma (EFE).- The leader of the Balearic PP, Marga Prohens, has been proclaimed this Thursday the new president of the Balearic Islands in a second vote held in the Parliament after obtaining the support of the 26 PP deputies and the abstention of the 8 of Vox, in compliance with the governance pact between both parties.
The 25 opposition deputies (PSOE, MÉS and Podemos) have voted against in the investiture plenary session held this afternoon in the Balearic Parliament.
The new president, excited, has received a loud ovation from the deputies of her party and Vox, who will not enter the regional government, as Prohens has defended since the last electoral campaign.
The new president is 41 years old, is from Campos (Mallorca) and has a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
She has been a PP deputy in Congress and in the Balearic Parliament and last 28M she managed to win for her party, in her first attempt, regional elections and accede to the presidency of the Balearic Islands after eight consecutive years of progressive government chaired by the socialist Francina Armengol.
Prohens is the first PP woman to hold this position, previously held by Gabriel Cañellas, Cristòfol Soler, Jaume Matas and José Ramón Bauzá.
This Friday he will take office in a solemn act that will take place at the Consolat de Mar, headquarters of the regional Executive.
