Valencia (EFE) climate change is combated while betting on “a macro-expansion” of the port of Valencia.
QUESTION: What is at stake on July 23?
ANSWER: That thousands of Valencian men and women can have a voice that represents them in the Cortes Generales. A brave voice, that does not resign itself and that stands up to PP and Vox. A determined voice that defends public services, an economy at the service of people or the fight against climate change. And a Valencian voice that defends the interests here in Madrid.
Q: Will it influence the quality of life of Valencians if the Government of Spain and that of the Valencian Community are of the same or different sign?
A: Unfortunately we have spent a long time verifying how whether one or the other governs, with the same or different political color, we Valencians are mistreated in the State budget or due to the lack of reform of the financing system.
The only thing that has changed that has been the presence of Joan Baldoví in Congress: if with a single deputy we have obtained more than 500 million, now we have the challenge of having a Valencian voice with more weight in order to obtain more resources and investments.
Q: Tell me three matters that in your opinion should be a priority at the beginning of the next legislature.
A: Strengthen public health, paying off the health debt that the State has with communities such as Valencia, to which it owes more than 800 million. Take bold steps to address the cost of living, especially housing. Create quality jobs, recognize new rights for workers and promote the ecological transition with green employment.
Financing reform
Q: What would you like the first law to be approved in the legislature that arises from 23J to be about?
A: A law that reforms the financing system and that allows Valencians to have the resources they deserve for education, health or social services.
Q: Two Valencian demands for which you want to fight for the next four years.
A: Investments, especially in suburban areas. We will demand the transfer of the management of the commuter service to the Generalitat. And in addition to financing, it is essential that we pay our debt for so many years of accumulated underfinancing.
Q: Will the new regional financing model be a reality in the next legislature?
A: We run the risk that there will be a new model but that, as always, it will condemn us Valencians to be second-class citizens. We need a new model, but also one that is fair to our land. And that depends on the strength that we have forces like Compromís-Sumar the next legislature.
The more Valencian and Valencianist voices we have in Congress, the more strength to defend a reform of the system that, once and for all, is fair to the Valencians.
Q: And will it be possible to recover the Valencian Civil Code?
A: We have pending the reform of the Constitution that would make it possible, but at the moment of truth both PP and PSOE have kept the issue in a drawer. They take photos defending civil law but do not work to recover it. Compromís we have been the only ones who have tried in every way and we will continue. The more strength we have, the closer we will be to recovering it.
sexist violence
Q: Is there sexist violence? Two specific measures that should be insisted on in this area.
A: It exists and its denial is an attempt to set us back 30 years in this fight. Whoever denies sexist violence denies the measures to combat it. Two measures that should be an absolute priority: more resources to defend and support the victims, and work on the education of the youngest and the awareness of the elderly.
Sexist violence is born from the idea that women belong to men and that has to end. Unfortunately, the PP is giving coverage to people who represent that discourse and who are even convicted of sexist violence.
Q: Is the necessary action being taken against climate change?
A: No. It cannot be said that climate change is being combated and not investing in suburban areas or betting on a macro-expansion of the port of Valencia. The problem is not just climate change deniers, but also the posturing of those who say they are fighting it but then fail to take the necessary action. It is necessary to be brave and, above all, coherent.
Q: How will your party’s electoral campaign be?
A: Proximity. We want to contribute to Compromís-Sumar the knowledge of the territory, to transfer the problems of each town, each neighborhood and Valencian city to the Congress and the Senate.
