“In the following button you can check your data, as well as verify if you have been called to a polling station,” reads the email that the scammers pose as the Ministry of the Interior.
Interior has alerted this Monday of this scam through its Twitter account and has asked that “do not click”, at the same time that it remembers that the notification of the polling station arrives by certified mail at the address and not by e-mail.
“As you well know, the general elections of the Government of Spain will be held on July 23. Their participation is of unquestionable importance, since the establishment of a government depends on it”, explains the fraudulent email, which then proceeds to encourage the voter to click on the button that will redirect them to their data.
According to the Ministry, it is a “phishing” attempt, a technique in which they send emails that impersonate official institutions and companies to steal users’ personal and banking data.
