Oviedo/Gijón (EFE) serious damage” to its segment of activity and that puts it in a “desperate” situation.
The Bar Associations have developed different acts of protest in several cities in Spain, with the aim of making public “the unbearable situation” suffered by lawyers due to the “incessant succession” of strikes that are suffered in a Justice service that is has been “paralyzed” in practice for months.
The lawyers refer to the effects on their segment of activity of, on the one hand, the strike of justice officials, which has been taking place since April 17, and, on the other, that of Justice lawyers, which reached its end on March 28 after exceeding two months of duration.
Victims of “inadequate management”
The dean of the Gijón Bar Association, Benigno Villarejo, highlighted in front of the city’s Palace of Justice that the strike makes the legal profession and citizens “victims” of a conflict that they have not generated and in which there has been a “inadequate management”.
Thus, it has demanded that an “agreement” be reached that puts an end to a situation that “is causing serious damage” to its segment of activity and to citizens.
Villarejo has insisted on the “scrupulous respect” that the Gijón and Asturias legal profession has for the right to strike, although he has qualified that the professional group he represents cannot be asked for the “constant sacrifice” of being “greatly harmed” for these strikes.
He has stressed that the legal profession will “raise the tone” of their protests “to the extent that it is admissible and enforceable” and has asked that those involved in the conflict “adopt a much more proactive attitude in resolving it” and have a “high vision” .
Five months of paralysis
For his part, the vice-dean of the College of Attorneys of Gijón, Fernando Lorenzo, has lamented these “five months of paralysis” of the public service of Justice that have had a notable effect “also for attorney professionals”, since since January “tens of thousands of views” have been suspended, for which reason it has demanded that the parties involved reach an “immediate solution” in the face of an “unsustainable situation”.
The Oviedo bar associations and attorneys have also gathered before the Provincial Courts and Courts in Llamaquique to highlight the need to end “this calamitous succession of strikes” and resume the public service of Justice.
In a statement, they have transferred that their situation is “practically desperate” due to the lack of income, to which is added the “helplessness of citizens” and the “discredit” of Justice.
They have stressed that the Ministry of Justice has shown itself to be “inoperative” in the management of both conflicts and have demanded the “immediate end of the strike”, as well as prior notice to the parties and the professionals involved, at least 24 hours in advance, of each of the acts and appearances that are going to be suspended.
