It has done so by presenting a parliamentary initiative to request a comprehensive law against “domestic or intrafamily violence.” Another sign of his distancing from the rest of the political parties in the fight against sexist violence, one of the main reasons that hinder his negotiations with the PP to agree on the government of Extremadura.
In a statement, Vox refers to the non-legal proposal presented by its parliamentary group in the Cortes of Castilla y León, which will be debated next Wednesday and which urges the future Government of the nation to enact a “comprehensive law against violence domestic or intra-family that protects women, children and the elderly regardless of the sex of the victim and perpetrator”.
In this text, without references to gender violence or sexist violence, Vox defends that it has an “unwavering commitment” to the “real and effective defense of women who suffer violence.”
After that, they allude to the statistical data as follows: “We find that year after year the number of women who have lost their lives as victims of intrafamily violence stands at an average of more than 50”.
It is at that point in the statement that they assimilate the statistics of women who have been murdered by their male partners or ex-partners with the concept of “domestic violence”. Concept that is different and broader than that of gender violence, by including that which can be exerted by children on parents or between other relatives.
Criticism of the PP
In the press conference after the Castilla y León Court Spokespersons Board, Vox spokesman Carlos Menéndez acknowledged that in his training they have the feeling that the times regarding the future regional law on intrafamily violence -in This complementary case with the specific one against gender violence and pending approval for a year- “are managed from Genoa -national headquarters of the PP- and not from the Colegio de la Asunción”, headquarters of the regional Executive.
In the same appearance, the representative of Vox has recognized that this party “does not manage the times” to approve this regional regulation against intrafamily violence. Likewise, he has been confident that in the remaining two and a half years of the legislature “they have plenty of time for this law to come to light.”
Although he has denied that there is a loss of confidence in this matter within the coalition government, he has added that they do have the “perception that there are different popular parties.”
Repeal the law of ‘only yes is yes’
The parliamentary initiative that will be debated next Wednesday in the Cortes is based on the 12-point document that Vox released this week. Document to immediately repeal the so-called law of only yes is yes and adopt measures against the recidivism of aggressors released early by that rule, among other measures.
The parliamentary spokesman has reiterated that his formation will continue to defend “the approval of the law on domestic violence.” Likewise, he has reflected on the controversy originated, since in the 2016 agreement signed between the PSOE and Cs a law against intra-family violence was also included and “there was no controversy.”
“If other parties present it, it is a reformist and progress measure, but if Vox presents it, it is from the extreme right,” he concluded. EFE
