Logroño (EFE) after four years occupied by the PSOE.
Fernández, in the plenary session of the constitution of the new chamber, has prevailed this Thursday, in the nominal and secret vote of the 33 deputies, to the candidates Jesús María García, of the PSOE, former president of the Chamber during the last legislature, who has received the 12 votes of his group, and Ángel Alda, from Vox, only supported by the two deputies of the same acronym.
Thus, the PP, which held the Presidency of the La Rioja Chamber between 1995 and 2019, has recovered it after losing it four years ago when the PSOE won the elections, which signed a governance agreement with Podemos and IU to access the regional government in coalition with the purple formation.
The five positions on the Parliamentary Board in this eleventh legislature are occupied by three members of the PP -Presidency, First Vice-President and First Secretary- and by two from the PSOE -Second Vice-Presidency and Second Secretary-.
The 17 deputies of the PP, the 12 of the PSOE, the 2 of Vox and the 2 of Podemos-IU have sworn or promised the Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy of La Rioja; and, these last two, have done so by “legal imperative” given their status as “communist and republican”, in one case, and as “republican”, in the other.
The new president of Parliament, 30 years old and a practicing lawyer, has indicated, during her speech in plenary, her commitment to continue working to bring the Chamber and what happens in it closer to the daily life of the people of La Rioja, “live where live”.
“A priority aspect, on which we must continue to insist and which requires a commitment shared by all”, indicated Fernández, who hopes “to be able to join efforts to help make this Chamber a more open and closer institution , from the dialogue and fluid interaction with the people of La Rioja”.
We can warn about Vox
Socialist Javier García, who is making his debut as a deputy, has told journalists that his party will seek to “provide enthusiasm, a lot of experience and an impeccable service record, which will be monitored.”
For her part, the deputy of Podemos-IU, Henar Moreno, lamented that, for the first time, the La Rioja Parliament welcomes “the presence of the ultra-right, a political force that endangers the rights won by years and years of struggle for women and LGTBI+ people“.
The two Vox deputies have declined to make statements at the end of the plenary session, in which, at the beginning, the president of the old table, the socialist Teresa Villuendas, has sent “a message of encouragement, strength and affection” to all the people from La Rioja affected by the storms of the last few hours.
