Logroño, Jun 22 (EFE).- The acting Government of La Rioja has decreed level 1 of the Special Civil Protection Plan (INUNCAR) in the face of the floods caused by the strong storms that have fallen in the last few hours in different parts of the community, where up to 50 liters per square meter accumulated in one hour.
This Thursday, first thing in the morning, a meeting was held between the General Directorates of Biodiversity, Infrastructures and Emergencies and Civil Protection to coordinate the transfer of all the necessary means to the areas affected by the floods where they are needed.
The media of the Government of La Rioja will focus on the cleaning of roads in Navarrete and Fuenmayor; and checkpoints will be transferred to Huércanos, Alesón, Uruñuela, Ventosa and Cenicero, he added in a note.
He has indicated that on the evening of this Wednesday, June 21, waterspouts were recorded in La Rioja in which up to 50 liters per square meter accumulated in one hour, which caused damage in several areas.
The most affected municipalities have been those of Huércanos, some 25 kilometers from Logroño, where numerous floods were recorded; and Uruñuela, about 28, where the overflow of the Yalde river made it impossible for the firefighters to act yesterday.
The intense storms have caused the Alhama river to rise and have also affected various areas of Logroño and its metropolitan area.
In the case of the La Rioja capital, two people had to be rescued last night from their vehicles when they were driving down Clavijo street and through the San Gregorio area as a result of the storm.
The main incidents occurred due to the entry of water into garages, basements, communities of owners and commercial premises; and rafts of water were generated in different areas of the city, the City Council has detailed in a note.
The southern area of Logroño was the most affected and the work, which lasted until this morning, consisted, above all, of draining water, raising sewers and unclogging drains.
