Oviedo, June 14 (EFE).- The jury of the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord will make public this afternoon its ruling for the awarding of an award to which 47 candidates from 18 countries choose and which will be the last to fail of the eight awarded annually by the Foundation that bears the title of the heiress to the Crown, in the edition corresponding to 2023.
The jury of the award, which is intended to recognize “the work of defense and generalization of human rights, the promotion and protection of peace, freedom, solidarity, world heritage and, in general, the progress of Humanity”, is integrated, as usual, by members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation.
In previous editions, this award went to, among others, the architect Shigeru Ban, who obtained it in 2022; in the Polish city of Gdansk; the European Union; journalist Caddy Adzuba; the city of Berlin; UNICEF; writer Joanne Kathleen Rowling; Adolfo Suarez; Hussein I of Jordan; Stephen Hawking; the Sephardic communities and Doctors Without Borders and Medicus Mundi.
This year’s list of recipients of the Princess Awards includes American actress Meryl Streep (Arts); the Italian philosopher Nuccio Ordine (Communication and Humanities); the French historian Hélène Carrère (Social Sciences); Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge (Sports); the Japanese writer Haruki Murakami (Literature); to the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (International Cooperation) and the American biologists Jeffrey I. Gordon, Peter Greenberg and Bonnie L. Bassler (Scientific and Technical Research).
Each Princess of Asturias award is endowed with a reproduction of a sculpture designed by Joan Miró, an accrediting diploma, a badge and the cash amount of fifty thousand euros. The awards ceremony will take place in October during a ceremony at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo.
