Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The PSOE, Nueva Canarias and Unidas Sí Podemos have closed their agreement on Tuesday to govern in collation for four more years (the third consecutive legislature) the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the socialist Carolina Darias as mayoress, as reported tonight by the PSOE.
The agreement was almost taken for granted since election night, not only because the three progressive forces continued to have an absolute majority (12 PSOE, 2 NC and 1 Unidas Sí Podemos), but also because their respective leaders had publicly spoken in favor of to revalidate their alliance in the Consistory.
The details of the agreement will be made public this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in a joint press conference by Carolina Darias (PSOE), Pedro Quevedo (NC) and Gemma Martínez, to later submit it to the approval of the leadership of their respective parties.
The PSOE advances in a statement that the pact “defines seven strategic objectives that will have as a priority to improve the lives of people in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.”
The local PSOE secretary and outgoing mayor, Augusto Hidalgo, stressed that this alliance allows his party, “with a list led by Carolina Darias, to revalidate the mayoralty for a third consecutive term.”
“This is a historical fact that consolidates and expands, with one more mayor in the government, the trust that the public has placed in us,” he argues.
For his part, Darias has indicated that “on May 28, the citizens of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria made public their desire to continue advancing to make our city a better city in which anyone can have the same opportunities wherever they live.” live. Citizens chose future and hope”.
Darias explained that the agreement with NC and Unidas Sí Podemos reflects “a shared vision of progress and improvement of the lives of the citizens of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria”, in addition to serving “as a reference for the response to the demands of the city and of the great challenges that we have to face, such as globalization, climate change or sustainability”.
With this three-way alliance, the former Minister of Health ensures that she is, for now, the only PSOE mayor in charge of one of the ten largest cities in Spain. EFE
