Bilbao, (EFE).- Nearly 4,000 primary school students from 148 schools in the Basque Country had their first experience enjoying artistic creativity with the “Learning through art” program of the Guggenheim Museum
This program was established 25 years ago.
During these years, the program has had the collaboration of a total of 34 local artists, who have traveled to schools -six centers per year- to improve and reinforce the school curriculum of their students through art.
This was explained by the director of the museum, Juan Ignacio Vidarte, in an appearance on the occasion of that anniversary.
In the same act, he also presented the exhibition of children’s works corresponding to the 2022-2023 edition.

118 students
This course involved 118 schoolchildren between the ages of 6 and 12 who have worked on sustainability, responsible consumption, the importance of water and managing emotions.
As Vidarte has highlighted, art constitutes a transversal tool to understand other subjects.
“In addition to getting to know new disciplines, the language is also reinforced by learning new words and learning to work as a team,” he said.
This year’s 118 “artists” exhibition will be open to the public from June 13 to September 17 in the museum’s Education Space.
This educational program has its origins in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, where the patron Natalie K. Lieberman implemented it in 1970 in response to the elimination of the teaching of the arts in public elementary schools in the city. EFE
