Barcelona (EFE) Simó, born in 1968 in Alamús (Lleida) but living since she was young in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), takes over from Josep Gonzàlez Cambray, who during his tenure has maintained a constant pulse with the teachers’ unions, due to changes in the calendar and other deficiencies in the educational system, and which has been harshly criticized by the opposition. At 54, Simó has an extensive political career that began as a councilor for L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, before making the leap as a councilor of Social Welfare and Family in the first left-wing tripartite, chaired by Pasqual Maragall. With experience in the field of education because she was president of the School Council of Catalonia, from 2018 to 2021, Simó will have the challenge of restoring good relations with the unions, consolidate the new calendar, regularize the situation of temporary workers, adapt schools to climate change, reduce school segregation and improve academic performance.SENTENCE OF DISABILITATIONMember of Parliament between 2006 and 2017, she held positions on the Board of the chamber, first as first vice president (2012-2015) and later as first secretary (2015-2017). In her last stage, she was a member of the Board chaired by Carme Forcadell who processed the laws of the 1-O referendum and legal transience, which the Parliament approved in the tense sessions of September 6 and 7, 2017. For these events she was sentenced, along with the other members of the Board , four months of disqualification, which was imposed by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) on May 31. Although four months have not passed since that ruling, the sentence is not final and the trial also had to be repeated, by indication of the Supreme Court, so it is possible that the court considers the sentence served, given that the time of disqualification has been comfortably exceeded since the first ruling was made, in 2020. He has been a member of the military since he was young in ERC, a party in which he has held various positions in the Republican executive with different leaderships, Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira, Joan Puigcercós or the current Oriol Junqueras.
