Barcelona (EFE) in the deployment of renewable energies. The appointment of Jordà as number two on the ERC list for the general elections on July 23 has led to changes in the Government, not only in the Department of Climate Action that he has directed since May 2021, but also in the Education and Territory portfolios. In Climate Action, up to now number two, David Mascort (Barcelona, 1969), a profile little known to the general public who has served as Secretary General of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda. Graduated in Economics and Business Administration with a Master’s in Business Administration and Management from the University of Girona, he has held municipal positions, as vice president of the Gironès Regional Council (2003 and 2007) and mayor of Vilablareix (2011-2022 ), a town near the city of Girona. Among the challenges that Mascort faces as minister stands out the management of an unprecedented drought that still persists and the promotion of short and long-term measures, already approved by the Government, to increase the reuse of water, desalination and savings, in the face of a water crisis that could be more and more frequent due to the effect of climate change. Despite the fact that the rains in May and early June have slightly softened the harshness of the situation, the Government maintains the forecast that a large part of the Catalan population enters the last alert phase, the emergency phase, at the end of summer or beginning of autumn, which will entail more restrictions.OFFSHORE WIND FARM IN ROSESIn parallel, Mascort will have to deal with the problems that farmers face due to the reduction in water availability for irrigation, especially in the Urgell Canal, as well as the impact on crops due to the retreat of the Ebro Delta.Other folder is the deployment of the energy transition, especially to reduce the significant delay that Catalonia accumulates in wind power, for which the Government promotes, among other initiatives, a park of mills in the sea in front of the Gulf of Roses (Girona) .
