Las Palmas De Gran Canaria (EFE) , a job, he said, that must be done hand in hand with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
The minister made these statements during a visit to CEIP Las Rehoyas in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he held a meeting with teachers and students from the center to see first-hand the activities carried out within the “Patios abiertos” healthy living program like well.”
Asked if, facing the end of the legislature, they plan to expand the anti-smoking zones in some way, Miñones has not specified any specific measure and has made reference to the fact that in April the public exhibition of the Royal Decree regulating certain aspects related to smoking manufacturing, presentation and marketing of tobacco and related products.
“We also go hand in hand with the European Union, which will not make progress on the regulation until July. For our part, we are working in these smoke-free areas, to also contribute new campaigns for vapers and to continue betting, hand in hand with the municipalities in those anti-smoking areas, which I think is something that can be done together with the FEMP and that I will ask them to promote this matter much more ”, declared the minister.
Regarding the strikes of doctors that have taken place throughout Spain, and specifically in the Canary Islands, Miñones has indicated that the Ministry has put on the table “all the measures that it could take” and has made reference to the increase in MIR positions ” which have gone from 6,000 in 2016 and 2017 to 11,151 in the last call”, and the promotion of degree approvals, “which have multiplied by seven”.
“It is evident that if there are not enough doctors, the problem reaches mainly primary care. Of the 11,151 positions that we took out, 131 have remained vacant and they are all in this area, which is where we must act”, the minister said.
In any case, he pointed out that it is a problem whose solution requires time because professionals take five years to train.
Regarding labor conflicts, Miñones has pointed out that it is the communities that have to promote solutions in this regard, not only in terms of remuneration but also with addressing “a new concept of life and time” that new professionals have.
“The autonomous communities must increase their economic items in their budgets for health, which is the first thing any citizen asks for,” he concluded.
The minister has also referred to the warning from the World Health Organization regarding the appearance of new pandemics and has pointed out that the important thing is “to be prepared and have the capacity to respond”.
“It is true that as a result of the covid we have learned a lot and we have a perfectly coordinated and organized surveillance structure. We must prevent the pandemics that come because what we are clear about is that new ones will come, as in recent years, so we must be much better prepared and we are going to continue working along these lines”, indicated Miñones.
