Torrelavega (EFE).- The Cantabrian athlete based in La Rioja Fernando Velasco has started the third stage of his sporting challenge in Torrelavega to give visibility and promote the inclusion of rare and mental illnesses.
This challenge began in Poncebos (Asturias) on July 23 under the slogan “Running for those who cannot. Mental health also goes with you.
In this third stage he will travel the 35 kilometers that separate Torrelavega from Ontaneda (Corvera de Toranzo).
The goal is to finish the challenge on July 28 in Miranda de Ebro (Burgos), after having run about 300 kilometers.
Fernando Velasco, a regular of this type of visibility actions, proposes challenges of running without resting for about 6 hours, which allow the families of the sick to raise money with solidarity bibs.
This helps to cover the expenses of the therapies and their day-to-day activities.
The athlete already starred in another challenge in the region in November last year, running for 10 hours on a two-kilometre circuit around the town of Cartes.
His objective was then to give visibility to the rare disease Pierpont Syndrome and to demand that this pathology and its treatment be investigated.
