Guatemala City, (EFE).- The main zoo in Guatemala presented a female brown bear cub that was born in early 2023.
The cub, which was born weighing 1.86 kilograms, has had a “normal and safe development,” the authorities of the La Aurora zoo located in the west of Guatemala City told EFE.
The cub was born on January 12, it still has no name and is the second daughter of Polina, the brown bear of this enclosure.
Polina gave birth to Koda in 2020, a male bear, which has been located in another enclosure within the same park.
The environment of the bear Polina adapted to meet the nutritional needs and the hibernation season.
Celebration at the Guatemalan zoo
The zoo’s nutrition department held a nutritional enrichment session with some mothers and cubs of different species, for Mother’s Day.
The activity consisted of feeding fruit, ice cream and peanuts to the lemurs, spider monkeys and capuchin monkeys of the place.
La Aurora Zoo was founded in 1924, it has 287 species and more than 2,500 animals from different continents of the world.
2,300 species
It must be taken into account that Guatemala has around 2,300 species of flora and fauna in danger of extinction.
In addition, it is considered one of the countries with the most biodiversity in the world.
But according to experts, it is in danger of losing its natural wealth in the next ten years.
