This was conveyed this Tuesday by the Director General of Agriculture, María Jesús Miñana, to the farmers of Valle del Iregua, who have been informed of the existing measures in the face of the drought and have conveyed the support of the La Rioja government to the sector.
Miñana, through a note released by the Executive, has stressed that the procedures for requesting the declaration of the Valle del Iregua catastrophic zone will begin, “with information and data. It is a way to explore”.
It has clarified that “according to the National Civil Protection System Law, it cannot anticipate that the Iregua basin could be declared a catastrophic area due to drought.”
The figure of catastrophic zone in this regulation affects large and serious damage, such as those linked to catastrophic damage, material damage, civil protection emergencies, or population relocation.
“We do not want to say that the area (of Iregua) cannot be declared a catastrophic area, but, initially, the norm contemplates a series of conditions and, currently, all these conditions do not exist,” he has had an impact.
On the other hand, it has also reported that the Ministry of Agriculture will address the incidence of drought in all lines of contracting in the Territorial Insurance Commission, which will be held on the 11th, with representatives of the La Rioja Executive, Government Delegation, agricultural professional organizations, ENESA, Agroseguro and Insurance Compensation Consortium.
In it, “the incidence of drought will be evaluated in all lines of insurance and the situation in fruit trees will be studied in detail,” he said.
He also stressed that, “based on the fact that the fruit tree insurance conditions have many clauses, hydrological drought is not covered in irrigated areas, so once the situation has been analyzed, what measures can be deployed will be evaluated” .
