Valladolid (EFE) .79 and 15.64 percent in each case, according to the INE data published this Wednesday and collected by EFE.
In those first five months of the year, 129,306 children were born in Spain, 2.29 percent less than in the same period in 2022 and -11.45 percent compared to 2019.
The INE has published this Wednesday the data on births in the month of May, which were 1,025 in Castilla y León compared to 1,095 in the same month of 2022 or 1,252 in May 2019.
In Spain, 26,271 children were born in May, leaving the cumulative of those first five months in those 129,306 babies.
Only Madrid is saved from the fall
All the communities recorded decreases in births until May except Madrid, which remained practically stable with 0.02 percent.
The greatest falls were registered in the accumulated until May Asturias, with -9.17 percent; Cantabria, with -6.75 and Navarra, with -6.27 percent; in addition to Ceuta and Melilla, where the decrease was 12.80 and 17.51 percent, respectively.
Births rose 3.39% in Zamora and 0.77 in Salamanca and plummeted 17.01% in Palencia
The behavior by provinces was uneven, with increases to the accumulated until May of 3.39 percent in Zamora and 0.77 in Salamanca, and decreases in the rest, led by -17.01 percent in Zamora.
In León the fall was 0.69 percent, 1.88 in Valladolid, -3.77 in Soria, -5.73 in Burgos, -7.72 in Segovia and -11.14 in Ávila.
Deaths fell by 7.77% until July 2
The INE has also published this Wednesday the data on deaths until week 26 of 2023, that is, until July 2, which were 14,636 in Castilla y León, with a cumulative drop of 7.77 percent compared to the same period. of 2022, with 1,232 fewer deaths in absolute data, and -4.10 compared to 2019, before the covid.
In the national group, the deaths up to that 26th week of the year were 225,133, 4.73 percent less than in the same period of 2022 and 2.72 percent more than in those 26 weeks of 2019. EFE
