Ciudad Real (EFE).- The National Wine Fair (Fenavin 2023) opened its doors this Tuesday with the best business expectations for Spanish wine, having already arranged more than 10,000 meetings between buyers and sellers, with the aim of increase sales in major international markets.
This is one of the data provided by the president of Fenavin and head of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, José Manuel Caballero, during the inauguration of the twelfth edition of this fair at the Ciudad Real Provincial Fair Institution complex (Ifedi), chaired by the head of the regional Executive, Emiliano García-Page.
García-Page is pleased that Fenavin can be held this year in the new Ifedi facilities, a unique business space that hosts “by far the best fair in the wine sector in Spain and probably one of the best in Europe”.
During his speech, he recalled the position that the Government of Spain has maintained to try to avoid and get the European Commission to stop Ireland’s unilateral agreement to “stigmatize wine labeling in his country, contrary to European provisions”.
Castilla-La Mancha exports 10% of all the wine in the world
In addition, it has opted for the internationalization of wine in Asian markets and has trusted that Castilla-La Mancha, which already exports almost 10% of the world’s wine, can increase this figure.
For his part, the president of Fenavin has assured that the business expectations with which this fair begins “are very good”.
Thus, he has highlighted that Fenavin has the presence of some 2,000 wineries of all denominations of origin; “a very important presence of buyers”, around 19,000 -of them 14,500 nationals and the rest international from 102 countries- and more than 10,000 arranged meetings between buyers and sellers.
Caballero has referred to the influence that the fair has in the markets and in the sector, to the point that in the 2022 edition, after the celebration of this event, wine exports from the province of Ciudad Real reached in the two months later, 73 million euros and ended the year with a historic sales figure of 393 million euros.
The importance of linking the image of wine with food
For the president of Fenavin, it is also essential to “link the image of wine with food” and that is why he thanked the Ministry of Agriculture for linking the image of Fenavin with the Alimentos de España brand.
In this context, he has reflected on the importance that, for the internationalization of wine, would have the possibility of using the presence of the Kingdom of Spain in the world through its embassies and its commercial attaches and has advanced that the fair will seek complicity of the Government of Spain to work on this objective.
Spanish wineries invoice 5,300 million euros per year
For his part, the General Secretary for Agriculture and Food of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fernando Miranda, has justified the support of the central government for this fair, which projects Spanish wineries and cooperatives that bill more than 5,300 million euros every year and they export for a value of almost 3,000 million.
“Fenavin allows the entire sector to be able to improve and for our wines to go further and reach more places, to add value to the economy and the country”, added Miranda, who has concluded that the Government of Spain is going to bet “resolutely” for the promotion of wine in international markets and is working on the possibility of using European funds for this.
