Istanbul, (EFE).- The president of Turkey, the Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdogan, attacked this Sunday his main rival in the elections next Sunday, the social democrat Kemal Kilicdaroglu, whom he described as drunk and unfaithful.
In an electoral rally in Istanbul before hundreds of thousands of people, the Turkish president, who has been in power for 20 years, accused the opponent of wanting to divide the Eurasian country.
“We will not let Kilicdaroglu, who travels with terrorist organizations, have this country divided,” Erdogan said during a speech broadcast live on Turkish television.
“Mr. Kemal, drink from barrels, if you like. My people will not let the drunk take the square and leave,” added the president, who described the opponents as “infidels”, people without books (without the Koran), people without prayer.”
Kilicdaroglu had promised this Saturday, during a massive rally in Istanbul, that he will pacify and unite the country in the event of a victory.
“I, with my friends, will bring spring to this country, I will bring peace. No matter who they are, we will take care of the problems of everyone living on this earth. We will never discriminate against anyone”, assured the opposition candidate.
“And my word is that I will be the president of 85 million. I will serve 85 million. I will not make distinctions and I will embrace everyone”, concluded Kilicdaroglu, leader of the polls a week before the presidential and parliamentary elections.
