Washington, May 7 (EFE).- At least seven people died and six were injured after a man ran over a group of people at a bus stop this Sunday in Brownsville (Texas).
The incident occurred in front of a shelter for the homeless, which also serves as a center for migrants.
A man was arrested for what happened, as reported by the Brownsville police (a city on the border with Mexico) to ABC News.
The reasons for the outrage have not yet been established, but as explained by Lieutenant Martín Sandoval, it is being investigated whether it could have been intentional.
At 8:30 a.m. local time, police received a report that a Land Rover had run over several people at a bus stop.
at least seven dead
The police verified that there were seven people dead at the scene and six more were taken to the hospital with minor or serious injuries.
Several witnesses took it upon themselves to arrest the driver, who was held until the police arrived.
He is receiving medical attention and tests are being performed to establish if he had used drugs or alcohol.
They are still counting the wounded, Sandoval said, since some of them were taken away in ambulances.
It was full of migrants
The lieutenant explained that the center is a shelter for the homeless but with the immigration crisis, it is full of immigrants.
The event occurs when there are only a few days left until the end, on May 11, of the Title 42 immigration regulations.
This is a measure that was adopted by former Republican President Donald Trump and later continued by Democratic President Joe Biden.
The objective was to expel migrants taking into account the covid-19 pandemic.
To prepare for the possible problems generated by the end of this regulation, 1,500 US soldiers will be deployed on the border.
