Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE) since compared to the same month of 2022 the islands have 19,289 fewer unemployed, according to data released this Thursday by the Ministry of Labor.
Of the 179,692 registered unemployed in the archipelago at the end of last month, 93,118 belong to the province of Las Palmas, where this indicator fell by 1.60%, with 1,515 fewer unemployed being counted, and 9.35% in interannual terms (with 9,609 fewer unemployed). –
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, for its part, had 86,574 unemployed at the end of the fourth month of the year, 2,184 less than in March (-2.46%), although in year-on-year terms the decrease is 10.06%, accounting for 9,682 unemployed less.
In the total number of unemployed on the islands there are 76,625 men and 103,067 women, of whom 9,923 are under 25 years of age (5,451 men and 4,472 women).
By sectors, 138,609 belong to services, 16,161 to construction, 6,771 to industry and 3,788 to agriculture and livestock, and 14,363 had no previous occupation.
Compared to March, unemployment dropped by 2,178 people in the services sector (which includes tourism and commerce), by 459 in construction, by 144 in industry, by 132 in the primary sector and by 786 in the group without previous occupation.
In April, 47,292 employment contracts were signed in the Canary Islands, 12,453 less than in March (-20.84%) and 14,187 less than a year earlier (-23.08%).
Of these, 22,482 contracts were permanent (6,089 less than in March, -21.31%, and 10,153 less than a year earlier, -31.11%) and 24,810 had a temporary duration (6,364 less than in March, -20.41 %, and 4,034 less than a year before, 13.99%). EFE
