“They contain toxic substances, which are not harmless and which damage the body,” the members of this advisory body have warned after meeting this Wednesday.
They have explained that 8.6 percent of the population between 15 and 64 years of age in Cantabria states that they have ever smoked this type of cigarette.
“While a decrease in tobacco consumption is observed in all age groups, accompanied by a high perception of risk, a new problem has emerged, such as the consumption of electronic cigarettes, about which information and awareness must be raised”, insists, according to the Government in a statement.
For this reason, World Tobacco Day, which will be held on May 30 at the Tabacalera civic center in Santander, will be dedicated to this new form of consumption under the slogan “Vaping is not the solution, it is part of the problem”.
At the meeting of this council, chaired by the head of Health, Raúl Pesquera, the results of the latest survey on drugs and alcohol were presented. The most consumed legal drugs in Cantabria by the population between 15 and 64 years of age are alcohol , tobacco and hypnosedatives and among the illegal ones, cannabis stands out, since 44% of Cantabrians say they have tried it at some time.
A decrease in cocaine consumption is observed, while alcohol consumption stabilizes and tobacco consumption decreases (35.8% of Cantabrians have smoked at some time).
