Brussels (EFE).- The European Commission denied this Friday any involvement of the son of the Minister of Agriculture Luis Planas, who works as an assistant to the General Director of the Environment of the Community Executive, in the position of Brussels regarding the situation of Doñana and the European rejection of the irrigation law of the Junta de Andalucía.
After various PP officials revealed that Luis Planas Herrera, the minister’s son, was using his position in the European institution to influence the position of Brussels and even wrote the letters addressed to Spain, a spokesperson for the Commission explained to EFE that “the official in question has communicated his personal situation in a declaration of conflicts of interest.”
“His assignments take this into account to avoid any existing or potential conflicts of interest. We can confirm that he has not been involved in the Doñana affair,” the spokesperson added.
The European Commission also recalled that its obligation as “guardian of the Treaties” is “to act in cases of infringements and to ensure compliance with the judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU in a strictly collegiate manner.”
“All cases of infringement are adopted with the prior endorsement of the cabinet (of the commissioner) and the cabinet of the president” Ursula von der Leyen, underlines the spokesperson.
