Barcelona (EFE) Lunch at the Martinez restaurant, hours before the Bruce Springsteen concert.
Those responsible for the Moco Museum had been waiting early in the morning for the arrival of the Obamas and the Spielberg couple, who have taken advantage of the day to sample Mediterranean culture and cuisine before tonight’s concert by their friend the Boss, and have decided to get to know this contemporary art museum, opened two years ago in Barcelona a short distance from the Picasso Museum, which they have not entered in the end.
The Moco Museum has closed its doors to the public one hour before the arrival of the illustrious visitors, who have appeared around 12:30 p.m. and have remained in the museum center for about 60 minutes.
Surprise by the presence of Obama and Spielberg
The Barcelonans and tourists who were in Montcada street at that moment were surprised by the presence of the Obamas and the entourage of security agents that accompanied them.
The Mossos have blocked the entire street to facilitate the entry of Barack Obama, his wife Michelle, Steven Spielberg and his wife, the actress Kate Capshaw, who have entered the museum to applause and greetings from tourists and residents of the zone.
For his part, the former US president, under a spring sun, in a blue shirt, beige pants and sports shoes, has not stopped smiling and waving, while Spielberg did so with his cap, both when entering and leaving the museum. .
In addition, Obama has raised his thumb when asked by journalists if he was enjoying his visit to Barcelona.
The works of the museum that they liked the most
The promoters of the museum, Kim and Lionel Logchies, who have acted as tour guides, have later explained to the press that, among the works they have seen, they especially liked one by Kehinde Wiley, the same author who made a portrait of Obama in 2018, and they have added that they have also been surprised by the sculpture “Final Days”, by Kaws, located at the entrance of the museum.
His “tour” through Barcelona continued with a visit to the Sagrada Familia basilica, where the former president of the United States arrived with his companions at around 1:42 p.m. in various cars on Calle Mallorca, one of the roads adjacent to the modernist temple that, like the others that surround the temple, were cut off by a large police device coordinated by the Mossos d’Esquadra.
After a short visit, 25 minutes after entering the iconic Antoni Gaudí monument through a side entrance, the Obamas and the Spielbergs left the basilica and headed once again to the motorcade heading for Montjuïc mountain to make a stop to eat.
They began their route at dawn
The route to discover cultural and gastronomic sensations in Barcelona for the Obama and Spielberg couple began at dawn, when, accompanied by Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa, they went to the Amar restaurant, located in the El Palace Barcelona hotel.
In this restaurant specialized in seafood that is run by the Sevillian chef Rafa Zafra, the outstanding diners have tried prawns, fish or Iberian dishes with tomato bread, among other dishes, and have drank white and red wine.
Rafa Zafra explained to RAC1 that Obama chose this restaurant on the recommendation of chef José Andrés and that the Spanish chef installed in Washington was in charge of choosing part of the menu served.
For food, they have opted for the Martínez restaurant, in the Miramar area of Montjuïc, specializing in rice dishes and with spectacular views over the sea and a large part of Barcelona.
