Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Nueva Canarias candidate for Prime Minister, Román Rodríguez, is convinced that his party will achieve some 100,000 votes and between five and seven seats in the regional Parliament in the next elections and will be “ decisive” to achieve a progressive majority.
Rodríguez believes that NC will exceed 83,000 votes and the five seats won in the 2019 elections and this will contribute to consolidating the progressive majority that, in his opinion, the citizens will re-elect on May 28.
For the candidate from Nueva Canarias, that majority of progress “will be closer to 40 seats than 36”, after four years in which there has been “a stable government that has defended the general interest” despite numerous challenges and difficulties you have faced.
Román Rodríguez made this statement during the presentation of the NC political program for the upcoming elections, called “A country plan to live and grow better.”
One of the key elements of this program is self-government, “the defense of the decision-making capacity of our community to articulate the present and the future of this land and in a special way and in this same category the defense of the Canary Islands in the European context and of the Spanish State”, said the NC candidate.
According to Rodríguez, “the Canaries of today, and even less the Canaries of the future, would not be understood without a powerful self-government and political forces that defend our singularities, our rights, our differential issues that are consigned in the constitutional frameworks.”
Likewise, NC defends a sustainable development model that takes into account the carrying capacity of the territory, with special attention to the fight against the climate crisis and respect for biodiversity.
The defense of public services and the welfare state are another proposal from the nationalists, who give priority to health, education, social services, culture, housing and sports.
NC also advocates for the defense of the Canarian, “of our history, our culture, our environment” or a language typical of the islands, Rodríguez said.
Likewise, it advocates the recovery, conservation and dissemination of the period of the indigenous stage of the archipelago, “which unfortunately is unknown”, according to its candidate.
Regarding tourism, Rodríguez is in favor of a great agreement in the sector that defends the economic engine of the archipelago and focuses on a quality tourist rather than on the number of people who visit the islands.
Likewise, Rodríguez has highlighted as proposals from his party the fight against poverty, fair and progressive taxation, the promotion of employment, a commitment to public transport, the transformation of the health system to adapt to changes in society, the defense of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF), the protection of the primary sector and the defense of democracy.
