Santander (EFE).- The population at risk of poverty or social exclusion dropped to 19.5 percent in Cantabria in 2022 compared to 21.4 percent the previous year, the fourth lowest in Spain, according to the Survey of Conditions Vida that has been published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics.
The Cantabria rate is six and a half points below the national rate, which has also dropped, from 27.8% in 2021 to 26 percent in 2022.
The percentage of the population at risk of exclusion is set with the AROPE rate, which measures poverty not only with income, but also includes severe material deprivation and low employment intensity.
The population at risk of poverty (which measures how many people have low incomes in relation to the population as a whole) decreased from 21.7% to 20.4% in Spain and in Cantabria it went from 15.4% to 14.8%. hundred.
Cantabria has the fourth lowest rate, along with Madrid, after Navarra (10.9%), the Basque Country (12.2%) and Catalonia (14.5%).
It is also the fourth community with the lowest proportion of the population at risk of poverty or social exclusion, behind Navarra (14.5%), the Basque Country (15.7%) and Aragón (19.1%).
ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES
According to the Living Conditions Survey, the Cantabrians are, after the Basques, those who least have to face delays in payments related to the main residence or in installment purchases.
In Cantabria the percentage is 7.2%, in the Basque Country, 5.3 and in Spain as a whole, 13.2.
The number of households that do not have the capacity to face unforeseen expenses is 23.9 percent in Cantabria and 35.5 percent in Spain.
And 5.8 percent of Cantabrian households have great difficulty making ends meet compared to 8.7% for the country as a whole.
However, there are more households that cannot afford to go on vacation away from home for at least one week a year: 34.4 percent in Cantabria and 33.5% on average in Spain.
AVERAGE INCOME
The average annual income per person in Cantabria stood at 13,811 euros, a figure that corresponds to the 2021 financial year.
In the country as a whole they were 13,008 euros.
The highest average annual income was registered in the Basque Country (16,427 euros per person), Navarra (15,970) and Comunidad de Madrid (15,695).
The lowest correspond to Extremadura (10,133), Murcia (10,632) and Andalucía (10,703).
