Toledo (EFE).- Little Erik was in a hurry to be born this past Sunday and the baby did not wait for his parents to arrive at the Toledo Hospital.
A few kilometers after leaving his house, in Escalona, he poked his head through the birth canal and the father had to stop the car on a service road.
“I just had to grab him, because he came out alone,” Erik’s father, Sergio García, 45, recalled in statements to EFE.
Erik has weighed 3.3 kilograms, he is “perfectly” and early this Tuesday afternoon his mother, Tamara Esteban, and he have been discharged from the Toledo University Hospital, as he explains with a big smile and without hiding his emotion the father.
They decided to go directly to the Hospital instead of the health center
At two in the afternoon on Sunday Tamara Esteban (33 years old) started having contractions and they decided to go directly to the Toledo Hospital, about 30 kilometers away, instead of going to the Escalona health center.
They got in their car but after 15 kilometers the mother’s water broke and the strong contractions began.
“And he tells me to, stop the car, that I have the child’s head outside. I tell him that?. And he tells me to stop the car, that I am throwing the child out ”, recalls Sergio
The father stopped the car at the roundabout on the Maqueda service road, near a gas station and a cafeteria, and asked the people there to call 112.
Sergio got out of the car and turned around to assist his wife, who was riding in the passenger seat. “I went next to her and the child began to come out alone, but alone, alone, so that I had to grab him because he came out alone,” she recalls.
Once outside, the father spanked the baby and blew on him, but he was scared because he was not breathing.
A nurse who was in the gas station cafeteria picked up the baby
She started crying and screaming and at that moment a nurse from the cafeteria arrived, who picked up the baby and revived it and handed it over to the mother.
Then the health team sent by 112 arrived and Sergio García was able to record how they cut the child’s cord (still inside the car) and removed the mother’s placenta. That video has already gone around all the televisions.
“It has been something special, something surprising and spectacular”, summarizes Sergio García with a big smile, who emphasizes the speed of the delivery and the good condition of the child and the mother, “who has no stitches or anything”.
Little Erik is Sergio’s fourth child and Tamara’s second.
