Madrid (EFE).- Ministers of Unidas Podemos, government partners and pro-independence parties have harshly criticized Juan Carlos I this Wednesday for his second visit to Spain, considering that he comes “to laugh at the Spaniards” when what he should have to do is give explanations for being “corrupt”.
The Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, has affirmed that the new trip of the emeritus king “is absolutely out of place” as he is a figure that “does not represent the Spanish, nor those of the left, nor of the right”, and that ” It does a very important damage to the image of Spain”.
Garzón has remarked that the king emeritus does not embody “the good work and the good way of behaving of the Spanish citizenship”, after recalling that “he drags many judicial processes” although they have been archived by prescription.
“They have shown that he is not innocent and that he does very significant damage to the image of Spain”, the general coordinator of the IU has censured in statements to the media in Congress before the arrival today of Don Juan Carlos in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) to spend a few days with your sailing friends.
Belarra dismisses the visit as “gross”
The Minister of Social Rights and leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has branded the visit of the father of Felipe VI, the second to Spain after going to live in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) in August 2020, as “gross”, and has defended that citizens elect the head of state so as not to attend this situation with “some embarrassment”.
From Más País, his spokesman, Íñigo Errejón, has reproached Don Juan Carlos for returning to Spain to “laugh at the Spanish, those who are republicans and the monarchists.”
“I would like that when he comes he does it to put his accounts in order and pay the taxes he owes. But if he has ever had it, he has lost all shame and has lost all respect for Spain and the Spanish people. He comes to laugh at all of us and give a terrible image ”, Errejón stated in the Lower House.
He has asked the Government to clarify that the Spanish “do not have to pay for the grace” of the trip to the emeritus, whom he has defined as “a man with serious suspicions of corruption and commission agent.”
The Compromís deputy and candidate for the Valencian Generalitat, Joan Baldoví, has attacked Juan Carlos I for “having more face than back” for not having given “any explanation” for the assets he hid abroad and his tax irregularities.
“You are not doing your own son any great favours. I care very little what this gentleman can do. What interests me is that he give explanations for what he did while he was head of state, ”Baldoví has demanded in Congress.
For the Junts spokesperson, Miriam Nogueras, while “the corrupt can come to Spain to participate in regattas after passing through London to see the regime’s club”, in reference to Real Madrid, some pro-independence leaders “continue to be persecuted and in exile ”.
The BNG deputy Néstor Rego has also referred to the father of Felipe VI as “corrupt”, who has lamented from the chamber that he can “walk happily” through Galicia with “the protection of the Government”. “This in a democracy is absolutely unacceptable,” he denounced.
The president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet, has summoned Rego to speak with “due respect” when referring to a State institution.
From EH Bildu, its spokesperson, Mertxe Aizpurua, has stressed that Don Juan Carlos “is putting the Spanish monarchy in a very bad place, even worse” and has reiterated the request to the Government to withdraw the honorary title of king.
The deputy for Citizens, Edmundo Val, has defended that the emeritus come to Spain “as many times as he wants” as he is “a free citizen”.
However, after the commotion that surrounded his first visit last May, Val has recommended: “If you do it as discreetly as possible, the better for everyone. We intend to preserve the good name of the Royal House”.
