Burgos (EFE).- A 46-year-old national policeman, investigated by Internal Affairs and whose weapon had been withdrawn, died this morning in a shootout with police officers and the Civil Guard who were going to arrest him at a gas station in Villagonzalo Pedernales, in Burgos.
According to the Delegation of the Government of Castilla y León, around 04:00 hours, the deceased began to shoot at agents of the National Police and the Civil Guard who were trying to stop him and when they repelled the attack they hit the agent who was he had taken cover behind the vehicle he was driving.
Natural of Ferror and investigated by Internal Affairs
The troops had gone to the gas station in the Burgos municipality after the Burgos Civil Guard Service Operations Center (COS) was alerted by the Police that this armed man was heading to Burgos on the A-231 highway.
The deceased national police officer, a native of Ferrol, and stationed at the Lonzas police station (A Coruña), was immersed in an Internal Affairs investigation for a drug trafficking case for which he had been arrested, according to EFE sources from the investigation.
Weapon retired and psychologically discharged
The national police officer, from whom the weapon had been withdrawn, was on psychological leave and since last Tuesday, April 18, he had moved to second activity due to insufficient psychophysical aptitudes, a situation that had yet to be notified.
In fact, yesterday he appeared at the Galician police station where he was assigned to carry out an administrative procedure in relation to his employment situation.
Later he went to the locker room where he has his locker, a moment that he took advantage of to steal another policeman’s weapon, forcing the closet where it was stored.
When this national police agent noticed the theft of his pistol, a large device was launched to locate him, since it was certain that the now deceased was responsible for the robbery and that he had fled by road in a vehicle .

Both the Civil Guard and the National Police tried to intercept him before he arrived in the city of Burgos, but he ignored them and fired on them.
He continued his flight to a nearby service station, in the town of Villagonzalo Pedernales, where a second shooting took place that ended with his death.
