Logroño, (EFE).- The regional deputy of IU La Rioja, Henar Moreno, this Wednesday accused Podemos of “playing dirty” by asking for 70 percent of the economic resources that they would obtain for their public representation if both parties concur as coalition in the next regional elections on May 28.
In an informative conference, Moreno explained that he “does not consider closed” the negotiation process to prepare these electoral lists, whose official presentation period ends at midnight next Friday, April 14.
He recalled that, last summer, the IU and Podemos reached a verbal agreement in La Rioja for Moreno to lead the regional candidacy of a coalition of both political formations, a decision that had to be ratified by the state leadership of Podemos.
Last Sunday, April 9, the two parties agreed that IU would head the regional list for the Parliament of La Rioja and Podemos the municipal list for the Logroño City Council, with a 50 percent distribution of the rest of the members of the candidacies and contracts. that were carried out in both institutions.
In that negotiation, Moreno has recounted, IU “ceded” 10 percent of the economic resources that were achieved by public representation, so that they would be distributed 60% for Podemos and 40% for IU.
Demands of Podemos
With this agreement already closed, he added, the IU regional coordinator was summoned on Monday night 10 to ratify it, but just before a counter-offer of 70% of economic resources for the purple formation was received, a figure “unaffordable ” that they are not willing to concede from Izquierda Unida.
“It is curious that in Podemos they have not had any problem fully assuming the electoral program proposed by IU, because it was the only one presented in this negotiation, but it is not serious or responsible that an agreement is not reached due to a mere matter of economic interests” , he stressed.
He has questioned that, in Podemos, decisions on La Rioja are made from Madrid, which also appointed in 2019 the “disastrous” regional candidate of the United We Can coalition, current regional deputy and Equality Counselor of the La Rioja government, Raquel Romero, who She was expelled during this legislature from the purple formation but has continued as a non-attached parliamentarian.
However, she has stressed that she preferred not to become part of the regional Executive in 2019, because “financial resources are not to improve life, but to do politics”, which is what she has dedicated herself to throughout the legislature, after signing a programmatic agreement with the PSOE.
“Join Forces” on the left
Moreno has insisted on the need to “join forces” on the left, to avoid in La Rioja the establishment of governments such as that of Castilla y León (PP-Vox) or that another stage of 24 years of the PP repeat itself.
He has also criticized that from Podemos Yolanda Díaz is required to have primaries for her Sumar project, but in La Rioja they rejected them in June 2022 when IU proposed them to prepare the regional and municipal candidacies for the elections on May 28.
“In Podemos they use democracy as an instrument to impose their holy will”, the deputy of IU La Rioja has censured.
He has concluded that “it is not acceptable that at this historic moment Podemos is not up to the task, because a lot is at stake”, for which he has trusted that the bases of Podemos “force” its state leadership to rectify its decision about the coalition.
